Inspiration & Story

Domina Lunae belongs to The Heirloom Vault, our solid gold and diamond work.

The name is Latin for lady of the moon. She carries the same sculpted moon face and eight-pointed star that run through our Curiosity Cabinet collection, the witchy, celestial world of moons, folklore and small strange objects. In solid gold she belongs to the Vault, and she is part of a 14K gold celestial set alongside the Veritas Lunare pendant and the Veritas Stellare earrings.

This one wears a genuine cognac diamond, warm brown and lit from inside. It is the right stone for yellow gold, because a cold white one always sits slightly against the metal rather than with it. A cognac diamond does the opposite: it deepens the gold rather than competing with it.

The shank is open, and that is the point. A closed ring has to clear your knuckle to reach the base of your finger, which for many people means choosing between a ring that goes on and a ring that stays. An open shank removes that choice, and it adjusts by half a size, which quietly covers the hot day, the cold morning and the long flight.

It also makes a finished gold ring far less of a gamble. Sized 17.5, she genuinely covers a little either side.

Crafted using in-house digital and traditional techniques: 3D designing, 3D printing, casting, benchworking, stone setting and hand finishing.

The moon's face was finished by hand after casting so the features hold their depth, and the diamond was set at the bench by us.

She sits low and open, with the moon and star reading clearly from across a table. Because the shank is open she can be worn slightly turned, moon forward or star forward, depending on which half of her you want facing the world.

Warm brown against yellow gold keeps her entirely in one temperature, so she stacks easily with a plain gold band and mixes without effort.

She pairs with the Veritas Lunare pendant and the Veritas Stellare earrings.

Because she is already made, she works for a proposal with a date on it, a birthday next week, or a milestone that happened this month rather than next season.

What does Ready to Send mean?
This exact ring is already made and finished. No production time. She ships within 5 working days instead of the 8 to 12 weeks a made to order piece takes.

What size is she?
Size 17.5, and the open shank adjusts by roughly half a size, so she covers a little either way.

Why is the shank open?
So the ring can pass a larger knuckle without sitting loose at the base of the finger. It also allows that half size of adjustment, which covers warm days, cold mornings and travel.

Is this good for knuckly fingers?
Yes, that is exactly what it solves. A closed ring has to clear the knuckle to sit properly, which usually forces a choice between a ring you can get on and a ring that stays put.

Can the stone be changed?
Not on this one. The cognac diamond is already set. The made to order version lets you choose your own.

What is a cognac diamond?
A natural diamond in a warm brown colour, coloured by structural features formed as the crystal grew. Same mineral and same hardness as a colourless diamond, at 10 on the Mohs scale.

Why 14K gold rather than plated?
Because plating wears through and solid gold does not. A plated ring has a deadline. This one does not.

Will gold tarnish?
No. Solid gold does not tarnish the way silver does. It may pick up a soft surface patina over years of wear, which can be repolished.

Can she be worn as an engagement ring?
Yes, and being already made helps if you have a date in mind.
