Inspiration & Story

The Wild Sword belongs to the Nox Ex Libris collection, a realm built from books, medieval revival, knightcore and the kind of fantasy you disappear into on purpose.

Most swords in this genre are forged. This one grew.

The crossguard is a pair of antlers, branching out from the blade where steel quillons would normally sit, and there is a good reason that reads correctly rather than as decoration. Antler is the only bone-like structure a mammal grows, sheds and regrows every single year. A stag drops them and builds them again from nothing, larger than before. It is the fastest growing tissue of any mammal. A weapon guarded by the one thing that comes back is a coherent object, not a pretty one.

Below the guard sits a sculpted rose, and the rose and the blade together are one of the oldest pairings in the literature people love: the thing that wounds and the thing that is worth being wounded for, on the same object. Beneath it, a stone set into the blade itself, where a fuller or a maker's mark would go.

The grip is wrapped and textured rather than smooth, worked like leather cord bound around a hilt, and the pommel holds a second stone in a raised setting.

She is set with topaz and morganite, one cool and one warm. Topaz sits at 8 on the Mohs scale, and morganite, the peach-pink member of the beryl family and a relative of emerald and aquamarine, sits at 7.5 to 8. Both are properly durable stones, which matters on a piece that will be worn to fairs and markets rather than kept in a box.

This is a sword for the ones who read the fight scenes twice, and who were always going to side with the thing in the forest rather than the army outside it.

This is a One of a Kind creation. There is one of her and she will not be made again in this form. Another sword may appear one day, with a different guard and different stones, but not this one.

Crafted using in-house digital and traditional techniques: 3D designing, 3D printing, casting, sawing, shaping, soldering, stone setting, blackening and polishing.

Both stones were set at the bench by us. The antlers and the rose were finished individually, and the blade was polished along its length so it reads as a blade rather than as a flat strip of silver.

Style & Wear

A forest weapon for fantasy, romantasy and knightcore baddies.

She hangs as a long vertical line, so she lengthens a neckline rather than filling it, and the antler guard gives her width at the top where a plain sword would be narrow all the way down. That makes her read from a distance far better than most sword pendants.

She wants a longer chain and room to hang. Against black she is a silhouette. Against linen or a pale collar the antlers read clearly.

The stones bring both a cool and a warm note, so she mixes happily with silver and gold rather than locking into one metal.

What is morganite?

Is topaz durable?
Yes. Topaz sits at 8 on the Mohs scale, harder than quartz, garnet or amethyst.

Is this suitable for a renfaire, LARP or fantasy convention?
It was largely made for exactly that. She reads clearly from a distance and both stones are hard enough to survive a full day out.

Does a chain come with this pendant?
Not as standard. The price is for the pendant, which arrives with a faux leather cord. A sterling silver chain can be added as an option or bought separately, and we would suggest a longer one so she has room to hang.

Will sterling silver tarnish?
Yes, all sterling silver does. Normal reaction to air and skin, not a fault. On a piece with this much texture in the antlers and the grip, a little tarnish genuinely improves the contrast. Your upkeep document explains how to clean her without flattening it.
