Beneath the rose cut clear quartz at the centre there is a small chamber with a crescent moon inside it, wreathed in sculpted leaves, with a garnet set at each shoulder. Inspiration & Story

The Bloody Moon Shrine belongs to the Curiosity Cabinet collection, a realm built from witchcraft, folklore, natural oddities and the strange beauty of things we keep.

She is a reliquary, in construction rather than metaphor. There is a genuine hollow chamber built beneath the stone, walled and floored and sealed with quartz over the top, and inside it a crescent moon and nothing else. The emptiness is the point. A reliquary is a container made to hold something too significant to leave lying about, and the whole nature of one is that it is mostly dark inside.

The name comes from a real event. A blood moon is a total lunar eclipse, and the reason the moon turns red is genuinely lovely: the earth blocks direct sunlight, but our atmosphere bends light around the edges of the planet and throws it onto the moon anyway. Blue light scatters away and red light gets through. So during an eclipse the moon is being lit by every sunrise and every sunset happening on earth at that moment, all at once, focused onto one rock a quarter of a million miles away.

That is what the two garnets are doing here. Deep, still, slightly black at the edges, sitting either side of a moon in the dark. Not decoration on a lunar theme. The actual mechanism of the thing.

Eclipses have been read as omens in more or less every culture that watched the sky, and modern witchcraft tends to treat the blood moon as a threshold: a phase for endings that are not gentle, for things that have to be finished rather than eased out of. It is the loud, visible counterpart to the dark moon, which does its work invisibly.

Around all of it, a wreath of sculpted leaves closes in, blackened down in the veining and polished back across the raised surfaces so each leaf keeps its own edge. Botanical and celestial together is not a modern mashup. Sowing, cutting and harvesting by moon phase is old, widespread folk practice, and anyone with a moon calendar pinned inside a kitchen cupboard is continuing it.

Crafted using in-house digital and traditional techniques: 3D designing, 3D printing, casting, sawing, shaping, soldering, bezel forming, stone setting, blackening and polishing.

A chamber is harder than a solid setting and considerably slower. The interior has to be finished properly before the stone goes on, because it stays visible forever afterwards and there is no reaching back in. The moon sits at the right depth to read clearly through the quartz rather than pressing against it or vanishing into shadow, and every leaf in the wreath was finished individually.

The wreath makes her wide across the finger while keeping her low in profile, so she sits flatter than a raised solitaire and is less inclined to catch on a sleeve. The shank narrows toward the back, which keeps her comfortable through a full day even at this size.

Yes. Clear quartz is a genuine natural mineral, one of the most abundant on earth, which is what keeps it affordable rather than any question of quality. It sits at 7 on the Mohs scale.

Is garnet hard enough for daily wear?
Garnet sits around 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, which is fine for regular wear. Over decades of everyday wear it can pick up fine marks on the top facet, which can be repolished. The shoulder stones also sit lower and more protected than a raised centre stone would.

Can this be used as an engagement ring?
Yes. There is no rule requiring a diamond solitaire, and a sealed chamber with something in it is arguably a more personal thing to propose with than a stone on its own.

Can I get this design with my own stone, or something else in the chamber?

What size is this ring, and can it be resized?
Size 20, and only 20. She is one of a kind and already finished. The wreath and shoulders occupy most of the band, so there is very little plain metal to work with and resizing would distort the design.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, a drop of washing up liquid, a soft toothbrush around the leaves, dried properly. Keep the top of the quartz clean, because light has to travel through it to reach the moon, and hand cream on the stone dulls the chamber rather than the stone itself. Avoid dip cleaners.

Will sterling silver tarnish?
Yes, all sterling silver does. Normal reaction to air and skin, not a fault. On a wreath with this much leaf veining a little tarnish genuinely improves the contrast. Your upkeep document explains how to clean her without flattening it.
